Congratulations, Colleen!

MNDHA member Colleen Brickle, RDH, RF, EdD is the recipient of two prestigious awards this year.

Colleen received the GSK/ADEA Dental Hygiene Teaching Fellowship (GlaxoSmithKline and American Dental Education Association) at the ADEA Annual Session in Dallas, Texas. This award included a stipend for travel related expenses to fulfill the responsibilities required of award recipients during the one year fellowship. This also included travel and registration to attend the Allied Dental Faculty Leadership Development program in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho on June 4-7, 2008. This leadership program is designed to enhance a dental hygiene educator's ability to contribute to a dental hygiene department, an institution, and to advance the dental hygiene profession.

Colleen is also a recipient of one of the 2008 Johnson & Johnson/ADHA Excellence awards. This award recognizes dental hygienists for outstanding accomplishments that impact the practice and future of the dental hygiene profession. Her accomplishments demonstrate incorporation of all six professional roles of the dental hygienist. These include administrator/manager, change agent, clinician, consumer advocate, educator/health promoter, and researcher. The stipend included travel, hotel, and registration and two days per diem at the ADHA Annual Session in Albuquerque, New Mexico. A luncheon awards banquet was held for recipients and attendees on June 22.

Congratulations to Colleen on these awards and achievements. Many thanks to Colleen for her ongoing, tireless commitment to the dental hygiene profession and its' advancement.

Congratulations Kimberly Johnson!!

At the ADHA Annual Session held in New Mexico, the 2008 Student Advisor Award was presented to Kimberly Johnson, RDH, BS of the University of Minnesota. The award was presented at the June 21st plenary session. This award, sponsored by WaterPik, recognizes an outstanding student advisor, who promotes the dental hygiene profession and encourages student membership and participation in SADHA/ADHA.

ADHA Nominations and Awards

Have you made a lasting contribution to the art and science of dental hygiene? Do you know someone who has?  Submit your nomination and application today!


The Irene Newman Professional Achievement Award was developed by the American Dental Hygienists' Association to recognize a current ADHA member who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in advancing the art and science of dental hygiene.  To be eligible for the Irene Newman Professional Achievement Award, the candidate must have fifteen (15) years of cumulative membership with the ADHA and be nominated by a voting member of the organization. (Candidates may nominate themselves.)

The Alfred C. Fones Award was developed by the American Dental Hygienists' Association to recognize a current ADHA member who has contributed significantly to the profession of dental hygiene.  To qualify for the Alfred C. Fones Award, the candidate must have twenty-five (25) years of cumulative ADHA membership and be a current voting member of the association.
